The University of MD Training Center and the Behavioral Health Administration, in partnership with the Mental Health Association of Maryland, is pleased offer the “Behavioral Health, Aging and Peer Support” training which has recently been expanded from 6 hours to 12 hours to provide more education, learner engagement and practice opportunities.

 

 

Objectives of Training  
This training will prepare peer recovery specialists to:

1. Describe how aging can impact behavioral health.

2. Describe how behavioral health can impact the aging experience.

3. Demonstrate effective strategies for conducting peer support with older adults.

4. Identify local, state and national resources that support older adults and peer workers.

5. Apply strategies for starting conversations around culture and meaning.

6. Identify challenges and barriers to appropriate behavioral health treatment for older adults, including ageism, comorbidities, and historical influences.

 

Time: 9:30 a.m.- 1:30 p.m. each day

 

Location: Virtual Platform

 

Instructors: Kim Burton, Senior Advisor to the Older Adult Program, Mental Health Association of Maryland, Casey Saylor, Older Adult Project Manager, Mental Health Association of Maryland and Karen Webber, CPRS, Peer Facilitator, Educator and Mentor for Older Adults Programs, Mental Health Association of Maryland.

 

Cost- Free

To Take This Training You Will Need-
1. A laptop or table that has a camera
2. Camera must be “on” during the training
3. A strong Internet connection
4. Laptop must be fully charged or plugged into electric outlet
5. A quiet space that provides privacy for you and other members attending the training.
6. All materials (participant handouts which you will be emailed to you) extra pens, etc. to make this an effective work environment for you.
 
CEUs- This training is approved by MABPCB, the peer credentialing board in MD and has been approved 12 CEUs. in the ethical responsibilities domain.

If you attended the 6 hour version of this training, you may participate in the expanded, 12 hour training however you will not receive CEUs for this training.
