Examples of Duties
Under general supervision, this position’s primary responsibility is to provide peer support to individuals who inject drugs in the Harm Reduction Program. Staff are required to be certified Peer Recovery Specialists.

This position will meet with program participants to provide peer mentoring, linkages to resources, and facilitation of contacts with the recovery community.
Staff will also assist and if needed accompany program participants to complete applications for services, attend medical appointments and treatment assessments.
Provides outreach to the community and distributes literature, brochures, and other related materials in an effort to educate the general public and promote the program.
This position will be trained to perform rapid (oral and finger stick) HIV and Hepatitis C testing and opioid overdose prevention/harm reduction education.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or appropriate equivalent
plus
a minimum of three years' lived experience of recovery, from which the applicant him/herself has maintained uninterrupted abstinence from a substance use disorder such as alcohol or drug addition
plus
Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist

Licenses and Certificates
Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist is required at the time of application. Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver license is required at the time of application.

Proof of Licenses, Certifications and Education
Applicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant’s major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.

Conditions of Employment

Employees hired after July 1, 2022 are required to participate in the Baltimore County Employees' Retirement System, with very limited exceptions.

Staff must be willing to work non-traditional hours, including weekends and evenings.

Physical and Environmental Conditions
The work of this classification is generally sedentary, but requires traveling throughout the County and some lifting and carrying in the set up of educational displays and presentations.

Medical Examination and Employment Background Investigation
Applicants selected for employment with Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination, drug screening and employment investigation, including, but not limited to criminal background, education certification and fingerprinting checks.
