As a Patient Navigator, you will work as a collaborative team member on an NIH-funded research study of opioid use disorder treatment linkage strategies using patient navigation and buprenorphine medication. The Patient Navigator will work with patients from the Baltimore City community to resolve barriers to initiating and engaging in opioid use disorder treatment and recommended follow-up medical care.

This is a temporary position for this specific project. We are looking to hire as soon as possible and the study will be ongoing through Spring 2025.

Responsibilities

The Patient Navigator will meet with participants from the community and work with them for up to 2 months following study enrollment, providing services including:

+Assisting in resolving personal barriers (e.g., lack of insurance, transportation).
+Providing motivational interventions to reduce ambivalence about substance use and treatment
+Assisting patients in making medical and substance use treatment appointments
+Helping patients to acquire prescription treatment medications
+Accompanying patients to initial appointments as needed
+Advocating on behalf of the participant with local agencies

Qualifications

+Comfortable interacting with people with substance use disorders in a non-judgmental and supportive way.
+Ability to work effectively in a variably-paced environment (alternating periods of low and high intensity).
+Willingness to and comfort with engaging in the local community and neighborhoods.
+Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills.
+Ability to adhere to the research protocol.
+Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
+Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and the internet.
+Reliable transportation for local travel throughout the Baltimore City community is required.
+A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or health related fields is preferred.
+Lived experience related to substance use and treatment is not required, but highly valued. People with relevant training and experience as a peer recovery specialist are encouraged to apply.
