Peer Recovery Specialists are individuals with the lived experience of substance abuse, mental, and/or behavioral health challenges. They provide a safe, supportive and confidential environment in which peers serve as role models for recovery from drug abuse, provide linkage to community resources, and promote overall wellness.
SALARY: $20.90
JOB TYPE: Part-Time
The summary of duties listed below is not exhaustive and dependent upon the needs of the hiring department.
- Serves as recovery advocate by providing person-centered resources and information by assisting consumers to make informed choices for their health and wellness.
- Demonstrates knowledge skills and abilities which fosters wellness from substance misuse, Mental and Behavioral Health, Trauma, Reentry, and Recovery Support.
- Assist individuals with linkages to appropriate community based related services and supports.
- Develops and maintains relationships with local community-based organizations to include health and human service providers.
- Demonstrates strategies such as Motivational Interviewing Techniques and attune in multiple pathways for recovery.
- Demonstrates the ability to conduct outreach and capacity building to strengthen community relationships with consumers and partners
- Demonstrates the ability to host workshops, presentations, and attend community engagements.
- Demonstrates the ability to serve within the 4 domains for Peer Recovery Advocacy, Ethics, Mentoring & Education, and Recovery and Wellness
- Maintain appropriate ethical boundaries Maintain all required paperwork and documentation in a timely manner, as directed by Peer Coordinator, Registered Peer Supervisor or designated supervisor
- Ability to work within the context of the multi-interdisciplinary team.
- Attend staffing trainings, workshops, and conferences.
- Maryland Certified Peer Recovery Specialist or Peer Recovery Specialist pending certification within 6 months is preferred
- A minimum of two years of recovery is required
- Have lived experience or personal experience for one’s recovery process such as an impacted family member.
- Knowledgeable of Baltimore City resources
- Baltimore City resident is a plus.
- Progressed in own recovery and/or have a basic understanding of the recovery principles and guidelines for peer recovery specialist.
- Able to articulate to consumers, families, and to interested stakeholders that peer support is a non-clinical service to promote recovery wellness.
- Entry-level competency using a computer, including email use, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
Drug & Alcohol Testing:
Those under final consideration for appointment will be required to submit to drug and alcohol testing.
Position of Trust:
Those under final consideration for appointment will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a criminal conviction check.
