The Recovery Specialist will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator for recovering clients. In this role, the Peer Recovery Specialist will assist clients in finding appropriate resources for long-term stability. Identify obstacles to accessing services and supports; addressing these in collaboration with participants and their individual Recovery Management Team. Assist recovery persons to readjusting to their community.

Responsibilities

Provide peer support to help recovering persons have their voices fully heard and their needs, goals and objectives established as the focal point. Support peers to identify their area of need for professional support and services, as well as communicating those needs to clinical staff. Transporting clients to the appropriate referral source or safe environment. Coach recovering clients on independent use of community resources.
Maintain contact by phone and/or email with peer support to aid recovering clients after departing the program to ensure their on-going success and to provide re-engagement support in partnership with others in the organization, if needed, provide recovery education to service clients for every phase of the recovery journey from pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization, and sustained recovery maintenance. Develop relationships with community groups/agencies in partnership with others in the agency. Completes documentation, reports and captures data in accordance with Tuerk House processes.

Refers patients to appropriate services in the community as necessary and documents referrals and outcomes. Other duties as may be required or assigned. A personal belief in recovery. Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Qualifications

Good communication skills and ability to interact effectively with personnel, visitors, patients, physicians and the general public. An ability to flexibly engage individuals based on their own needs. Demonstrated ability to respect and maintain appropriate and professional boundaries with management, peers, customers and clients at all times. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.

Demonstrated ability to read, understand and speak English. Must hold a valid driver’s license. High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Connecticut Community Recovery (CCAR) Training Required.

CPR and De-escalation skills. Ability to learn in-house software. Sobriety: At least two (2) years of sobriety. Training: Connecticut Community for Recovery (CCAR) Training required.
