Better Path is seeking Licensed Counselors (Alcohol & Drug Trainee, Certified Associate Counselor–Alcohol and Drug, or Certified Supervised Counselor) to provide counseling and recovery support to individuals with substance use and co-occurring disorders.
Counselors will be responsible for completing ASAM assessments, documenting notes within industry timeframes, developing treatment plans (if licensed to do so), facilitating groups, and collaborating with our clinical team to ensure quality care.
This role requires professionalism, compassion, and adherence to compliance standards, while maintaining the mission and values of Better Path.
Conduct ASAM assessments and other required intake/diagnostic evaluations.
Complete and document clinical notes within required timeframes following each client session.
Develop treatment plans and updates (if licensed for treatment planning responsibilities).
Provide individual, group, and family counseling as assigned.
Facilitate educational groups and support services for substance use recovery.
Collaborate with the Clinical Director and other licensed staff for supervision and guidance.
Ensure compliance with COMAR, BHA, and Joint Commission documentation standards.
Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and continuing education as required.
Uphold confidentiality, ethics, and professional conduct at all times.
Maintains a caseload as assigned and in accordance with COMAR and JCO regulations. Ensures incoming clients have a complete psychosocial history and comprehensive assessment and interpretative summary within 5 days of admission. Group notes daily.
Prepares, with clinical director and client participation, a Comprehensive Treatment Plan for all patients within 30 days of admission.
Completes a Treatment Plan Update every 30 days following the completion of the Comprehensive Treatment Plan.
Prepares the aftercare plan for all clients completing the program or being discharged for other reasons.
Provides follow-up care and contact with each discharged patient.
Provides individual addiction counseling according to the Comprehensive Treatment Plan. Provides coordination of care of services according to the Treatment Plan
Asams (weekly and monthly)
Active certification in Maryland as one of the following:
ADT (Alcohol & Drug Trainee)
CAC-AD (Certified Associate Counselor–Alcohol and Drug)
CSC-AD (Certified Supervised Counselor–Alcohol and Drug)
Familiarity with ASAM criteria and experience applying it to client placement and treatment planning.
Strong documentation skills and ability to complete notes in an EMR system.
Understanding of substance use treatment, co-occurring disorders, and recovery principles.
Knowledge of COMAR and Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) compliance requirements.
Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.
