WHO WE ARE
Self-Determined Recovery, LLC (SDR) provides residential and community-based, behavioral health services and housing for single individuals seeking treatment for substance use disorder.

HOW YOU WILL PARTNER WITH THE PARTICIPANTS
Peer Support staff work in conjunction with the clinical team to provide peer support and inspiration to encourage clients throughout their recovery journey in a manner that is respectful, therapeutic, and free from abuse, neglect, and exploitation

Responsibilities

THE TYPICAL DAY OF THE PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST
-Provide informal counseling and support to individuals struggling with addiction and mental health issues
-Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to encourage clients to make positive life changes
-Collaborate with clinical team to provide comprehensive care
-Monitor client progress and adjust supports as necessary
-Assist clients in developing coping skills and strategies for managing triggers
-Provide crisis intervention techniques as needed
-Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of client interactions and progress

Qualifications

Certified Peer Recovery Specialist preferred.
-Experience working in the field of behavioral health or addiction counseling
-Knowledge of mental health counseling theories, techniques, and best practices
-Familiarity with community resources and referral processes for additional support services
-Strong communication and interpersonal skills for building rapport with clients
-Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment
-Experience with crisis management and intervention strategies

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
● Basic math skills. Ability to read, write and understand the language of the person served and read and write in English.
● Ability to work as a team member.
● Serve as a role model for professional and support staff, by consistently conducting him/herself in a professional and ethical manner.
● Comply with Federal Anti-Kickback and Fraud Laws.
● Maintain therapeutic boundaries with consumers, families, and guardians.
● Demonstrated knowledge of HIPAA as related to confidentiality of information specific to persons served.
● Basic understanding or willingness to learn medications prescribed to persons served.
