Peer Support Specialist
Position Overview
A Peer Specialist will use the insight and learning experiences from their own recovery to assist, engage and encourage participants recovering from a recent onset of psychosis. The Peer Specialist will help support participants with a sense of belonging through a supportive relationship that encourages them to address their own mental health while helping facilitate self-direction and self-worth. The selected candidate will be willing to provide service in home and community settings and also attend community based activities. This position spends approximately 60-75% of time in the community.
Responsibilities
-Support persons served to voice their opinions and concerns to their mental health team
-Work with consumers and family members within a model of mental health recovery and person-centered care
-Assist persons served in their individualized recovery plans
-Share own personal recovery story to assist persons served as they work towards recovery
-With clinical staff, co-facilitating group evidence-based interventions
-Connect persons served to their communities and to one another
-Learn and provide evidence-based interventions
-Be an integral part of the clinical team, attending meetings and supervisions
-Establish and maintain personal and professional boundaries with participants, family members and co-workers
-Prepare written reports and maintains records
-Learn and adhere to all administrative regulations and procedures in areas including confidentiality, reporting requirements, and documentation
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Certification: Obtain a state Peer Specialist Certification within 24 months of hire date.
Preferred: A Valid Driver's License is strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Identify as a person in mental health recovery from psychosis.
Ability to communicate effectively and problem solve with peers.
Ability to prepare written documentation in a clear and concise manner.
Timeliness and flexibility in performing essential functions of position.
Ability to learn and utilize community resources.
