Harm Reduction for Peer Recovery Specialists is a 4-hour in-person training that provides participants with the knowledge and skills to become certified in Maryland. Participants will learn the principles of harm reduction; how to use the Stages of Change Model to help decide the services a client is ready to receive; core harm reduction approaches; how to help reduce stigma associated with harm reduction; how to support harm reduction and not jeopardize their own wellness; and interventions and resources that reduce the harm caused by substance misuse (e.g., safe sex education, medications for opioid use disorder, Naloxone education for opioid overdose, etc.) The training is interactive and includes discussion, role play, and written exercises.
Participants must be Prince George’s County residents or work/volunteer at an agency or organization in Prince George’s County.
