Registered Peer Supervisor (RPS) Training
Overview
This six-hour training fulfills the required education component for Maryland’s Registered Peer Supervisor (RPS) credential. Designed for Certified Peer Recovery Specialists, counselors, directors, and program managers, this training combines evidence-based content with applied skill practice. Drawing from SAMHSA’s national peer supervision framework and Maryland’s MABPCB requirements, participants leave with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to begin supervising Certified Peer Recovery Specialists.
What You’ll Learn
• Define peer supervision and distinguish it from clinical supervision, explaining its unique role within recovery-oriented behavioral health systems.
• Identify Maryland’s MABPCB eligibility requirements, application process, documentation standards, and renewal obligations for the RPS credential.
• Apply the three core functions of peer supervision to plan and conduct effective supervision sessions.
• Demonstrate evidence-based supervisory skills including active listening, empathetic responding, strengths-based affirmations, constructive feedback, and conflict resolution.
• Navigate ethical responsibilities unique to peer supervision, including dual relationships, self-disclosure, scope of practice, and confidentiality.
• Embed core peer support values into the supervisory relationship.
• Develop a personal supervision action plan and identify resources and self-care strategies to sustain effective practice as a Registered Peer Supervisor.
