Training Over-view: In this training we will learn about social determinants such as education levels, income, social inclusion, and protection that affect individuals’ and community’s health outcomes positively or negatively.. " These circumstances are shaped by the distribution of money, power, and resources at the global, national and local level. (WHO, 2019) What actions could/ should be taken to improve these health outcomes given the overdose crisis in many of our communities.
Learning Objectives:
- Define and identify the social determinants of health
- Understand how current US drug policy undermines social determinants of health
- Understand the role of the social determinants of health in the overdose crisis
- Analyze how harm reduction strategies address the social determinants at an individual level which improves community outcomes.
