This training presents harm reduction as a pragmatic and compassionate approach to managing the risks of drug use and other risky behaviors. Harm reduction doesn't require stopping drug use altogether, but instead focuses on empowering people to make safer choices and reducing negative consequences. It offers a variety of tools depending on the situation, such as syringe access programs for safer injection, Narcan to prevent overdose deaths, and PrEP to reduce the risk of HIV transmission. The training also highlights Maryland-specific harm reduction initiatives, including Narcan availability in pharmacies and free overdose prevention kits. If you live in Maryland, you can find resources and support from the Center for Harm Reduction Services.
